We have not seen the mate for a week or so. The last time was when their baby dove tried to fly and couldn’t. The baby made it to the birdbath and stayed there for a full day. The parents flew from tree to bush to tree sounding what sounded like encouragement. The baby made it to a bush at the end of the driveway.
We found no feathers on the ground. No evidence that any creature had completed the circle of life with the baby. And we saw none of the family until today.
Alone.
Quiet.
We hope for the best. We hope the mate is near. We hope the nest is safe.
We hope.
It sure does make us sad then when happens. Sometimes it turns out okay, and other times not so much. I will hope with you.
Have a blessed day and weekend. ♥

Aren’t these little observations heartbreaking sometimes? When I start to get too down about nature’s cruelty, I try to imagine alternate, happier endings: Maybe the mate is in Florida visiting her parents, or food is so plentiful that they don’t both need to forage. In any case, bless you for caring.
